Council wrestles with cemetery resolution
One possible fate of Sonoma's Upper Mountain Cemetery property
will be
discussed Wednesday night at a joint meeting between the City
Council and the
Environmental Advisory Commission.
The commission approved a resolution in March asking the council
to protect the
60-acre, city-owned parcel by turning it into a hillside preserve.
An upscale
Dallas-based resort company has expressed interest in building
a hotel complex
on the site.
The joint session begins at 6 p.m., one hour before the council's
regular meeting.
At that meeting, the council is expected to call for an April
29 public hearing to
decide what - if anything - should be developed on the property,
which a 1996
report deemed unsuitable for graves.
The meeting will be held at the City Council Chambers, 177
First St. W. in
Sonoma. For more information, or to pick up an agenda, stop by
City Hall or call
938-3743.
